Pamela Anderson Comes Out Against Porn

Written by on September 2nd, 2016

Pamela Anderson has just come out with a powerful and courageous, albeit surprising, public charge to end porn culture. As an iconic sex symbol who has done more Playboy covers than any other woman in the magazine’s history, her voice holds an enormous amount of weight and credibility.

Anderson knows first-hand the harms of the commercial sex industry, and she understands—from the inside—the sex-saturated media culture we live in. Two days ago, The Wall Street Journal published an op-ed co-authored by Anderson that warns of the “addictive dangers of pornography,” calling it “a public hazard of unprecedented seriousness given how freely available, anonymously accessible and easily disseminated pornography is nowadays.”

She continues in the article poignantly pointing out that “we are a guinea-pig generation for an experiment in mass debasement that few of us would have ever consented to, and whose full nefarious impact may not be known for years.” Anderson then asks, “…How many families will suffer? How many marriages will implode? How many talented men will scrap their most important relationships and careers for a brief onanistic thrill? How many children will propel, warp-speed, into the dark side of adult sexuality by forced exposure to their fathers’ profanations?” All of these questions beg serious consideration.

“…How many families will suffer? How many marriages will implode? … How many children will propel, warp-speed, into the dark side of adult sexuality by forced exposure to their fathers’ profanations?”

As is expected, Pamela Anderson has received praise from advocates of freedom from exploitation. Yet, at the same time she has received harsh criticism from those in the entertainment and sex industry who would rather maintain the status quo in order to line their pockets and maintain their lifestyles.

Despite the backlash, Anderson is not being deterred. Today she wrote on her site that she is pleased to be joining in the anti-porn movement.

“I speak with both experience and authority about the damaging effects of easy access pornography. Something must be done immediately. A healthy, loving sexual experience demands both intimacy and respect, both of which pornography addiction destroys, and I am committed to raising this fundamental awareness and protecting the vulnerable enslaved in the sex industry and abusive relationships.”

We at Exodus Cry applaud Pamela Anderson for taking a bold stance for truth and justice that comes from a place of personal experience. Although there is a long way to go, moments like these are very encouraging to witness, as it becomes apparent that the world is beginning to wake up to the reality of the harm’s of the commercial sex industry.
