Her heart beats.
Same as me,
Same as you.

She stands outside,
Waiting, watching
For the right one
To come on by.

As he appears,
She makes her move.
A little flirt,
A smooth whisper.

Then she must hope
That he'll agree
To pay the price
For her body.

Her heart beats.
Same as me,
Same as you.

He looks aghast
At her offer
And shakes her off
Muttering, “whore”.

She's used to this.
She has become
Accustomed to
Men's rejection.

She turns her back
And soon forgets.
But the word “whore”,
Still lingers on.

Her heart beats.
Same as me,
Same as you.

The night goes on
And customers
Come readily
To drink her up.

They take their fill,
Leave the money,
Then carry on
With no regrets.

She has more men
Still left to please.
Seven, eight, nine,
And still there's more.

Her heart beats.
Same as me,
Same as you.

When the dawn breaks
She's headed home
With wallet full,
But heart empty.

She finds her love
Still drunk with wine.
He screams her name
Then slaps her face.

“You should have made
More money bitch!”
She says sorry,
Then slinks away.

Her heart breaks.
Same as me,
Same as you.

This woman wants
To live her life
Away from pain
And from sorrow.

But she is trapped,
And others too,
In a sad life
Of misery.

What can you do
To set them free?
Just raise your voice
To pray and plead.

God loves her.
Same as me,
Same as you.
